This is the Great Hay Incline Plane. Located on a short stretch of the Shropshire Canal that linked the industrial area of Blists Hill at the top of the Severn Gorge with the River Severn at the bottom. It was in operation from 1792 to 1894 and enabled canal barges and narrowboats to be transferred 207 ft up a 1 in 4 gradient on wheeled cradles.

This area of the gorge is prone to subsidance and earth movement which I guess has caused the tracks to bend.

18th Sept 2012 - Sunrise under The Iron Bridge. The world's first cast iron arch bridge. Built 1775-1779 spanning the river Severn in the aptly named Ironbridge in Shropshire. The beams were cast by Abraham Derby III in his foundry in Coalbrookdale about a mile up the road.

I couldn't decide between this view and cropping in closer to just have the geometry of the beams. I like the framing of the cottages and boats in this composition though.

Shot yesterday morning on the way to school after a fresh snowfall with more snow on its way over the weekend. This time last year we had temperatres of 20C, now it's more like 20F

28th Jan 2013 - Bouncing Ball

This is an experiment from Saturday, it's a single exposure shot at 1/10th second with two speedlites firing in multi mode - 10 flashes @ 100Hz.

I took a lot of shots with a fairly hgh reject rate trying to get the ball bouncing in frame (this is uncropped) and getting the shutter release at the right time!

15th May 2013. Sunset over Wide Waters.

Wide Waters is now a fishing poool but traationally was part of the local canal network and supplied water to the mines and furnaces in the area.
